East Lyme makes it look easy

The look on Noelene Power's face Saturday wasn't so much surprise as it was sweet relief. Upon hearing her name called as the Swimmer of the Meet at the Eastern Connecticut Conference girls swimming and diving championship, the East Lyme swimmer realized one of her goals.

Now, Power and the Vikings ? coming off a dominant 669-point performance to win their 11th straight conference title Saturday ? have their sights set on the state championship next week.

"I really want to do well at states," said Power, a junior. "I'm hoping to win the backstroke in states. I'm not sure (if I will), I really hope I do. There are a lot of really fast girls in states."

Fitch finished a distant second with 315 points, followed by Norwich Free Academy (307), Waterford (288), Ledyard (187), Windham/Lyman (138) and Bacon Academy (33).
